FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate horse racing winnings?

Multiply your stake by the decimal odds. £10 to win at 5/1 returns £60.00. Each-way doubles the stake and adds a place bet at a fraction of the odds: £10 each-way at 5/1 (1/4 odds) returns £82.50 if it wins.

What is a dead heat?

When two or more horses finish level for a position. Your stake is divided by the number of horses involved and paid at full odds. £10 win at 5/1 in a two-way dead heat for first returns £30.00.

What about a dead heat for a place?

If horses tie for the last paying place, the place stake is reduced the same way. £10 each-way at 8/1 (1/5 odds) that dead-heats for the final place with one other horse returns £13.00 on the place part.

What is a Rule 4 deduction?

If a runner is withdrawn after you bet, winnings (not stakes) are reduced by a set number of pence in the pound. A 15p deduction turns the £10 win bet at 5/1 into a £52.50 return.

What if my horse is a non-runner?

Your stake is normally returned — £20.00 back on a £10 each-way bet. Check your bookmaker’s rules for ante-post and special bets.
