FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does a matched betting calculator work?

It works out how much to lay on a betting exchange so you finish with the same result whichever way the event goes. A £10 qualifying bet at 3.00, laid at 3.10 with 2% commission, needs a lay stake of £9.74 (liability £20.45) and results in −£0.45 either way.

What is a qualifying bet?

A normal bet, often required to unlock a free bet. Because back and lay odds differ and exchanges charge commission, a qualifying bet usually costs a small amount — the “qualifying loss”.

How do I lay a free bet (SNR)?

For a stake-not-returned free bet the lay stake is smaller, because the stake is not part of the return. A £10 SNR free bet at 5.00, laid at 5.20 with 2% commission, locks in £7.57 — 75.68% of the free bet.

What is liability?

The amount you could lose on the exchange if the selection wins: lay stake × (lay odds − 1). You need that amount in your exchange account.

Is matched betting risk-free?

The arithmetic removes the outcome risk, but mistakes (wrong odds, odds moving before both bets are placed, voided bets, account restrictions) can still cost money. Read each offer’s terms carefully.
